Tips
- TTC:
- There is a single flat fee for one-way rides within the city. If you will be transfering from one route to another you must obtain a paper transfer ticket when you first get on the system.
- Bus and streetcar drivers cannot give change.
- Tokens (coins that look like miniature twonies) can be purchased at subway stations. These are accepted system-wide, and are required to operate the automated turnstiles at unattended subway entrances.
- Day passes can be purchased at subway stations and most convenience stores for $10 (a bit less than four rides). A day pass is valid for unlimited rides for one adult on weekdays, unlimited rides for two adults on weekends.
- Weekly passes can be purchased at subway stations for $36 (approximately 13 rides), and are valid from Monday to Sunday inclusively. They are sold up to the Tuesday of their week of validity, and are valid for unlimited rides for one adult (but are transferrable, you can give or sell it to somebody else if you don't want it).
- Car:
- When driving in the city, remember it is illegal to pass the open doors of a streetcar. You could hit somebody stepping off or running to catch it from the sidewalk.
- Parking is strictly enforced. Despite what any sign says, nothing can remain parked in the same location on city streets for more than 3 hours without a permit.
- Motorcycles can park free-of-charge in metred spots (but are still restricted to 3 hours max).
- Air:
- Travellers returning to the United States by air will be required to pass through "pre-clearance" (US customs and immigration) here in Toronto. Include time for this in your departure schedule
